What Does Shade/full Sunlight Mean In Gardening Terms

When you see plants listed as full sun or shade or part shade. What does it actually mean? For example does full sun mean it gets full sun all day or it gets full sun for part of the day? Does partial shade means it in shade part of the day and sun part of the day? I assume full shade mean full shade all day.

That's about it! Full sun means that it gets at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, but the more light the better.
