What causes the loss of variegation in hosta?

The one Hosta plant I have potted on my deck comes out every spring a beautiful green and white but a couple of months later is always turns a faded white and green. How do I stop this?

What type of light does the plant receive? A variegated plant usually needs less sunlight and must be placed in an area with filtered bright sunlight. Variegated leaves can burn or lose color if placed in direct sunlight.
