What Can I Plant Near A Large Bay Tree

My neighbour has a large bay tree next to our shared fence. I have a gap in my bed and want to plant a small to medium shrub in there but not sure what will thrive due to the shade and dry ground.

Viburnum and Podocarpus can be good for this situation. You have other choices, but you have other options that are not shrubs, as well!
