Q.What Can I Grow in a Sometimes Flooded Area?

We have a large, low area in our yard that gets flooded when we have hard or long rains. It almost looks like a pond sometimes. The water stands for a day or two, then is gone. I am pretty sure we are Zone 5B, clay soil, and the area is mostly sunny/partial shade. All we have is dirt and weeds now and we are tired of mowing it. I would like it to be pretty to look at. Thank you for your help.
