I want to add a shrub or a perennial to these areas – sun in the p.m. Any suggestions?

I would suggest some Home Run or Double Knockout rosebushes. These are low maintenance rosebushes that you do not need to deadhead (remove the old blooms) for them to keep on blooming nicely. Give the Homerun rosebushes a try for something that seems to be constantly in bloom with a rich foliage that really sets out the blooms. Some Coreopsis plants would look nice mixed in as well with their nice bloom smiles. https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/rosa/home-run-landscape-rose-rosa [1]

Well, the answers depend upon a few different answers to the following questions. 1. Where do you live? 2. Do you know your gardening zone? 3. Are you wanting perennial flowers? Perennial bushes? Or do you enjoy a dwarf flowering tree? 4. Can you tell me what your soil is like? Clay? Sandy? Loam?
Whatever your answers are, I can give recommendations.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you,
H
