What can grow under Casuarina trees?

Question

I live in rural NSw and have a row of matured Casuarina trees that aren’t enough as a windbreak, I’d like to plant more smaller bushes/shrubs or small trees to try and help protect us more from the south/west winds.

Seagrape (Coccoloba Uvifera) and Coco Plum (Chrysobalanus Icaco) are two possibilities.
