All the leaves turned dry and brown. At the base of the tree and along the trunk there is a kind of sand or dust. One theory is that the roots of the tree hit the sewer and was poisoned by the water from washing machines.

If there are sand-like particles at the base of the tree, it may be borer insects. Carob does not tolerate wet conditions. Has there been a lot of rain lately? A fungal infection may have set in.

Washing machine water probably wouldn't kill it if environmentally friendly detergent is used. Some people in drought areas use that to water plants.
