What can be planted under azalea bushes?

Can I plant any low height ground cover or flowers under azalea bushes not harming them?
If I can, which plants are the best for a half sun/shade area?

Perennial bulbs such as daffodils, hellebores and snowdrops would be nice.
You could also plant Hosta and ferns.
