What can be planted in zone 5 (Western New York) in August?

I am getting married in Olean, NY in August. I want to use some type of plant as our wedding favors. Some ideas I have come across so far is a tree seedling (which can get kind of expensive). I thought of giving bulbs (preferably hyacinths. . . I love them) but I read that they can’t be planted till mid Sept. Any suggestions on what I can use?

Actually, the hyacinths would work. They can be grown in a container until fall (or left in the pot) or the bulbs can be stored in a cool, dry location until ready to plant. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/hyacinth/planting-and-care-of-hyacinths.htm [1]

Other options for late summer planting and eventual fall bloom include autumn crocus and autumn daffodil.
