Q.What are the best fruits, vegetables for a backyard garden?
Tomatoes, strawberries and basil all work great, but I haven’t been impressed with cucumbers, lettuce, bell peppers. . . it seems like they don’t taste all that good and you don’t get much to eat.

You may want to try different varieties. There are many different varieties of all the plants you listed and the flavors and how well they grow in an area can vary greatly. Ask around with other gardeners in your area, ask at a local plant nursery or call your local extension service and ask what varieties grow best (and taste best) for your area. The right variety can make all the difference in the flavor.
