Weeping cherry tree

I live in a co op. They trimmed about 12 inches of my tree without me knowing THEY WERE GOING TO DO IT! When I went outside, I was very upset. My question is, will it grow back? It looks so short and they are not professional landscapers. They told me it will grow back but I do not have any confidence in them. They just cut without any care where or how they did it and sawed off a thick branch. Can I do anything to help it grow now? I even know that you do not prune trees in the summer, and I am not a landscaper. Please help me a my beautiful tree.

You are correct about pruning now–this is not the time. Prune in late winter and remove the three ā€œDā€™sā€: dead, diseased or dying. While it will grow back, the blooming may be inhibited as a result of improper pruning but over time this can be fixed. In the future, this article will help with pruning: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/weeping-cherry/pruning-weeping-cherry.htm [1]
