Weed Control

We have a low growing weed that has taken over our 2 acre lawn. It turns brown and then has small stickers all over it. What is it and how do we control it? It is fern like in appearance, but grows very low on the ground. We get the stickers in our shoes and spread them everywhere, so they continue to come up. Even get them in the carpet in the house.

Sounds like a type of burr weed, but in order to be certain, it would help to see the plant. Could you send us a picture so we can be of more help in identifying this weed for you?
