Weed and Grass Control

Last year I put all my grass mowing debris in my 40 ft. by 100 ft. garden. My garden this year was grossly over run with grass and weeds. I hoed and rototilled the the garden rows to no avail. Half my garden was either stunted or choked out.

Is there anything I can use to kill all vegetation and be able to use the garden come spring? I was thinking about spraying the entire garden with Round Up. Any input to my question would be greatly appreciated!!

Generally, most chemicals in weed killers will dissipate after a couple good rainfalls or waterings. Read the label of the type you use for info on how long you must wait before planting (most will have this info). Generally, after at least a month or so, it should be fine to plant, so if you’re going to be waiting till next spring it should be fine to use the Round Up now.

In the future, you may want to consider adding some type of weed barrier around plantings and within pathways such as plastic, fabric sheeting, or moist newspaper followed by a layer of mulch. Good options for mulch in the veggie garden include shredded bark or straw.
