removing fig tree buds

We planted a fig tree in the spring. It’s growing beautifully, but now has buds. We heard they should be removed to allow tree to grow bigger. Is this true?

In my research I could not fine anything that supports the information you suggested.
Pruning is very important to good tree growth and fig production,
