We have two acer trees that have both grown a different looking shoot. Should we cut them off?

we have two red feathery type leaf acers. They have both got branches shooting out of the main trunk that are green and the maple type leaf. The green leaf branches are growing really well but the red tree not so well. Should we cut the new green shoots/branches off?
I hope you can help us cos I love acers.
Thank you
