Q.We Have Cabbage Palms Why Can\’t I Grow Plants Around It?

Zone Oceanside Oregon | palmcrazy5 added on March 31, 2022 | Answered

I live on the Oregon coast. I planted (not knowing what it was just a small spiky low bush the info tag from the nursery never said anything about growing into a tall palm. Turns out I liked it BUT none of my flowers will grow around it ! What is going on? The palm grew into 5 and now must cut some down just too tall. Maybe I should cut lower let them bush out. I’ve looked a many sites but realize now nothing is planted around them. Help what to do? Carol Apperson

This can have a common name of Mountain Cabbage Tree, but is actually Cordyline indivisa! Likely, this plants roots are too invasive for any companions to take root near it. Since it is in container, you may have to populate, nearby.
