Q.Watermelon Vine Severed – What Can We Do?

Zone 65109 | Robert Garber added on July 24, 2025 | Answered

We’re growing watermelon for the first time and the vine to our first melon was cut by something. It’s a Crimson Sweet melon. It is a little smaller than a football right now. Is there anything we can do to save it? Will it ripen on its own if we leave it in the garden? What if we bring it inside? Thanks for the advice! Robert Garber Jefferson City, MO

Unfortunately, if it is completely severed, there isn't much you can really do. They don't ripen off the vine. You might try eating them, but likely this won't be very good.
