Q.Watering during fall and winter?
At this time in Missouri, January 4, 2016, it is cold and no snow yet. It rained a lot but my 3ft raised beds are dry now. I do not have a watering system, so do I water my garden with my water hose, high overhead, or low close to the ground? Forecast showing light rain this coming Wednesday. Either we get a lot of rain or we have dry days, more dry days than wet days. When do I water my fall/winter veggie garden? I have sugar snap peas, lettuce, onions, spinach, garlic, collards.
I have prepped my asparagus bed that I started in August 2015. Do I water it during fall and winter months? All I did was to cut the ferns down (saw an asparagus cane coming up), and layered about 2-3 inches of straw over it. I am thinking now, I forgot to add manure and fertilizer. Should I do anything else? Thank You!

It is always best to water plants low and deep.
Check the soil conditions before watering to avoid root rot.
Your Asparagus should be left to stay dormant for the winter. Watering now could cause the plants to rot in the ground.
