Watering cactus

When to water a cactus? This article reads more in summer and less in winter. I’ve always done the opposite, more in winter because it’s the rainy season and less in summer because it’s the dry season. Or do houseplants adapt?

Cactus generally need more water during active growing season, and less during their dormant months.
