Watermelon Vines

Question

My vines have taken over the small area I set aside for them. How can I prune them back and use those cuttings to start new plants in another area? The original vines haven’t produced any watermelons yet.

Rather than prune them back, which would do more harm than good, I would recommend you train them to grow upwards. A tall pole or a trellis will work for this. You cannot start new plants from the cuttings.

When growing watermelon, they need either lots of room out (typically 6′) or plenty of room to grow up something.
