Water Lily Flower Has Grown Roots

Question

I have got a water lily flower that hadnt bloomed get ; that has decided sprouted its own roots on top of the water and has built its own tubler with leaves coming off of it and a lilly . Is this normal. I have had it for years. I think i bought it at lowes about 5 years ago. Looks like something from a alien movie. My question is ; is this normal?

Water lilies are very aggressive growers and they will run amuck if they run out of room to grow. It may be time to repot your lily. Here is more on their care:
