Water coming from Walnut Tree

I recently used a nail to put up a squirrel feeder on a mature walnut tree in our yard. Shortly after, I saw what appeared to be water coming from the hole where the nail is. I removed the nail and it still continues to drip. Can you tell me if this damaged the tree in any way?

The small hole won’t likely harm the tree. The tree is dripping sap and it should heal up on it’s own.
Watch the area for any signs of insects or a continued presence of fungus.

On a side note, we are having some mature Walnut Trees logged from our yard and they use metal detectors to ensure that no nails have been used on the trees, as they make the tree unsellable as lumber.
