Q.wall creepers with insect and snake repellent properties

Anonymous added on December 15, 2014 | Answered

I want to plant some wall creepers with good foliage and flowers. I would like to know the names and details of wall creepers that are avoided by insects, like mosquitoes and flies, as well as discouraging snakes.

Sorry to say, I've never heard of a vining plant that repel snakes and bugs. Of course, flies and mosquitos are not too interested in leaves and flowers, except as places to sit, and snakes seem to be more interested in making nests on the ground. The kind of plant you use is dependent, to some degree, on your location. Since you didn't provide that, I can only advise that you check with the extension service (if you're in the US,) or master gardeners in the UK. This link will help you find the nearest office:

Another consideration is that many wall-climbers can damage the walls themselves, so you might want to plant so that the vines use a trellis instead of the wall.
