Crepe Myrtle

My 3 large crepe myrtles have a sticky substance on the leaves that attract bees and wasps. The plant is on the west side of the house and gets enough sun, but does not flower too well. I am comparing mine to the beautiful ones in Atlanta, where my son lives! The Japanese beetles were not as bad this year compared to those of the past, so they are not bothering it too much. Please help–I LOVE these plants!

It sounds like your trees may have a scale infestation. Take a close look at the tree, particularly under the leaves and where the leaves connect to the branches and see if there are small spots. These will be scale. A pesticide should take care of them. Here is an article that can help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/scale-bug-how-to-control-plant-scale.htm [1]
