Vintage Orang Tree Was Trimmed Like A Hedge, Will That Kill The Plentiful Oranges It Has Produced?

40 yr old orange was trimmed like a scrub by someone not knowing what they were doing. Concerned if it will produce the plentiful fruit this next season? Also is there anything I can do to correct damage?
