Vinegar will kill any plant it touches, so the grass was vulnerable, too. Vinegar and boiling water are best used to kill sprouting weeds between pavers or on driveways or in beds before they are planted or dormant grass. It typically is good for annuals, but doesn't kill perennial roots. The crabgrass (and grass) should turn brown and wither away, so you shouldn't have to pull it unless the dead vegetation bothers you. Here is more on using vinegar:
