vegetable plant incompatibility

I have understood squash, gourds and pumpkins can turn red and cause useless produce. Where can I find details on this and similar problems as I attempt to plant a wide variety of vegetable plants and their many varieties, especially tomatoes and peppers and squash families?

I planted sunflowers out and was thinking of suitable beans to climb their tall sturdy stalks (trying Christmas, if my seed bought locally will just germinate this year, unlike past).

Sorry speller changed stuff .I meant to ask what plants planted if plants next to each out had power to either repell, kill off or interbreed bad combination characteristics in the home vegetable garden.
