Q.VARIOUS WEEDS IN GARDEN[How to get rid!]
My lawn was laid to turf approximately 4 years ago [virtually never been walked on save to cut grass et al] I have also not been at the property the majority of the time but when I have I have added ‘Evergreen 4 in 1 at correct times with a seed spreader [4.5] I have also added weed killer [perhaps too much!] When I have been here I have probably over compensated and watered too much [the lawn is circa 85 ‘ x 25 ‘ and I have at any one time watered between 1-2 hours each day in the hotter weather [spring and summer] sometimes during the day! It’s also had yellow tip past 3 years [I use a hoover type mower].
I would add that at the top of the lawn [away from the house] the grass is reasonably thickest and down the sides..but as you go down the lawn it becomes more sparse[towards the house]although, apart from weeds mostly the lawn is covered with grass]
Sun shines from 8am at the front of the house and then carries on throughout the day onto the back lawn [ from circa 9am-8pm Spring and Summer] The left hand side of the rear garden can be somewhat overshadowed by the 6 foot fence.
The lawn will no doubt take all the water from the top of a very large hill [all have reasonably sized gardens] and plateaus at my garden, followed by two other gardens to my left hand side at the bottom of the hill, [certainly on the left hand side of the lawn parts of it appear to be much wetter than the other side of the lawn!] It is mainly clay soil. The house is approx. 80 years old.
I have had a number of different variety of weeds [current pictures herein]
Perhaps you could give me your good advice as to what to do:
1. Get rid of said weeds.
2. Get the lawn to be plentiful leaves thick and green[ as when you look at the lawn its more ‘yellow’ than green to the eye overall, particularly when the sun shines on it.

The weeds don't look that bad but you do have some issues with the thinning grass and bald spots. I would try to thicken up the grass first, which might take care of the weeds, too. Proper mowing, fertilizing, and watering goes a long way toward eliminating most weeds. You might consider having your soil tested to see what the nutrients are like. Since you've been fertilizing, it wouldn't hurt to wait a couple months on any more. Here are articles that should help:
