Use Copper Mesh Or Fabric To Treat Cherry Tree Canker

We have an ornamental weeping cherry tree that has severe cankers in the tree trunk. We have used copper fungicide on it twice, and I wonder if we can cover the damaged areas with copper mesh or fabric to kill the bacteria

Neither will help, unfortunately. Once the tree has contracted this bacterial infection, it will be a permanent issue for the tree, ultimately, leading to its death.

Management may be possible, such as keeping all dead growth off of the tree and ground around it. Spraying the trunk with a 10% bleach/water solution once or twice per month can help some, too.
