Q.USDA Zone Explanation – What Do Hardiness Zones Mean Exactly
Im researching to start planting in my yard in zip 33713. Usda site: “determine which perennial plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual extreme minimum winter temperature ” Im 10b (35 to 40 degrees f.) So, Im looking for plants that include 10b. However, if i plant was rated 3 to 7, then it could survive as low as zero degrees f & would survive in 10b. So, should I be looking for plants that include 10b or any number less then 11? Like 3 to 8, or 5 to 10a. Paul .

You are looking for plants that include 10. For example, a plant rated 7 to 10 or 8 to 10. The reason certain plants may only be rated from zone 3 to 7 is the plant does not tolerate excessive heat or humidity. You can try to grow it, but it may struggle. Here is more:
