Q.Underbrush Plants

Anonymous added on July 3, 2011 | Answered

I live in an apartment that is surrounded by trees. There is little sunlight; the trees stretch far above me. Ivy grows on the ground. I have plenty of area where I could plant something. I would love to plant. . . but what?
Fern? What grows underneath all those leafy trees? I would also like to cover some of the more dirty covered hills; they could use some green. But how under all those trees?

Ferns, hostas, caladiums, elephant ears, and cannas all make excellent understory plants.
