type of grass/weed in our lawn

Question

In our lawn we have patches of this grass/weed and are curious as to what it is and a natural way to get rid or control it. I live in Waynesboro VA in the Shenandoah valley. I have a dog so I am relocate to use any type of chemicals on the lawn. I have attached a photo
