Q.Two Of My Standard Roses Haven\’t Bloomed This Year; They Are 20 Years Old And I Live On The Moray Firth.

Zone Shandwick, Ross-shire | Anonymous added on September 30, 2024 | Answered

Other roses nearby in my garden have bloomed per normal, even though several of them have become rather leggy. Don’t know how to send photo, sorry.

The fact that one is getting leggy sounds like it needs more sun or some deadheading to encourage side growth. Has there been a change in the amount of sun the 20 year old roses receive? That could squelch the blooms. So can lack of fertilizer (or too much nitrogen) or lack of water. On the other hand, 20 years is a long time and plants don't live forever. They may be declining because of age.
