tulip bulbs

I have planted tulip bulbs but they are being dug up and eaten. Have you any ideas what could be doing this?

Chipmunks, squirrels or mice are the main culprits for this, though almost any common rodent in your area will do this. To prevent them digging the bulbs up, try making simple cages for the bulbs out of chicken wire. The holes in the wire allow the plants to grow, but keeps the rodents from getting to the bulbs.
