Planting in spring allows this perennial vine the entire summer to establish its roots for winter survival. Fall is acceptable also; be sure to provide 3-4 inches of winter mulch. Trumpet vine can be problematic. It is a very aggressive, suckering plant that can easily outgrow its garden spot.
