trimming peonies

i am wondering if i can trim back my peonies when they are about knee-high in order to keep them from growing as tall as they normally do…i have the largest peony cages i could find and they still grow above the highest level and the stems then bend and break…

They height of the plant will, likely, be controlled by its genetics. You can, however, strengthen the stems by applying potassium silicate at 1/4 strength at the beginning of flowering. This will make the plant a little more sturdy while providing some extra help with the blooming process.

if i understand correctly, i need to combine potassium silicate with 3 times the same amount of water, then spray my plants when they begin to flower?
