Q.Trimming A Magnolia Tree.
We have several VERY large Magnolia trees in a home we just moved to. Am looking for advice on how we can trim the branches back, timing and how much we can trim back. We’d like to get aggressive if possible, but do not want to kill the trees. The tree in the attached pics is of our tree in the back yard. We are wanting to put in a concrete slab to the right (replace the shed behind the lattice fence with a 25×30 shop), and build a shop in its place. Height will be 9′, so need to trim lower branches.

Mature magnolias should only be trimmed if absolutely necessary. If you must, prune after flowering. Also, a concrete slab will prevent oxygen from reaching the roots. Here is more:
