What kind of citrus tree do I have? I thought it was some sort of orange tree, but someone told me it is a kafir lime tree.

There are actually a few citrus varieties with this distinctive double leaf shape. Kaffir lime is the best known of them in the US, but the Yuzu Lime and Nansho Sour Orange (Citrus taiwanica) can also have double leaves (but not all do), and there are possibly other citrus with double leaves. Perhaps one of these is what you have.
