tree ferns

Hi My problem is with our very healthy treeferns.
We live in Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges and the parrots love to break off the fronds from the treeferns making them look terrible! Mainly they break them half way down the frond. Each winter they destroy the ten healthy thick ferns, making them thin and sparse for summer. This has happened for the past two winters. I am sure they are nesting but I dont see any nests in the middle of the treeferns and they dont carry off the broken off fronds as they are all on the ground. Is there something I can do to discourage these birds from doing this?

Thanks.

My research shows netting the plants is the most recommended.
Other ideas are balloons and even hang old cd’s from the plants.
