Tree branches

A friend of ours pointed out that some of our tree branches face down instead of tipping up and told us that those branches are unhealthy and shouuld be cut off. The tree is not a weeping tree, but I don’t know what kind it is. Looking around our yard we have several trees with downward tipped branches. Our area is very shaded and damp. I was wondering if our friend’s comment was true and if we should cut these branches off or if it is completely harmless?

The growing pattern of trees is generally determined by the tree variety.
This could be a perfectly normal growth for you tree.

Pruning is generally specific to the type of tree.
If the trees are healthy, no signs of insects or fungus I would not worry about the trees.
If you trying to improve the visual appearance of the trees you could likely prune them to a better shape.

Since your not sure of the type of tree you have I would recommend a professional arborist come look at the trees and determine how and when to prune them.
