Is there a product I can apply to the barkless area on my tree that acts as bark and will protect the tree?

We would not recommend covering areas that have lost bark with anything. It can invite disease as it gives diseases a place to incubate against the tree. Trees, like humans, develop scars over damaged areas. A tree can recover from lost bark, provided that there is at least some bark that goes from the top to bottom of the tree.
