Q.Tree Bark Damage

Zone KENTUCKY | brian added on August 5, 2011 | Answered

I had a truck scrape some bark off a tree of mine. It’s less than 25%. It is 8 to 0 inches in length and 6 to 8 inches in width. A lawn and garden man put a roofing sealant on the area. There was no damage to wood, just bark. After reading your method of repair about air drying and no sealant, however, I’m worried that I’ve allowed them to do something that will kill the tree. Have I? What can I do?

You should be ok. Sealing increases the chances of disease, but does not mean that the tree will die. Just keep a close eye on the wound for the next few months for any signs of rot or disease.
