Large branch near ground needs to be removed. With what should I paint it?

This is not necessary. It needs to be cleaned after pruning with clean shears, and let to air dry to callus over. This will prevent infections that can come with pruning with dirty shears or sealing in pathogens.

If you feel that you MUST seal it, be sure to clean the area, first. Then seal it with a plant sealer to avoid any toxic chemicals interfering with the healing process.
