Transplanting Fig Tree to Container Pot

I dug up a fig tree that is about 12 inches tall. I want to transplant into a container because I will not be staying at current location. I’ve read lots on soil, drainage, and full sun. I can’t figure out info on putting into pot. What size pot and what type of potting medium and fertilizer, if needed? There were 4 plants of the same cutting in area where I got this one and only one was 4-5 ft huge and flowering. But it was in the sun! This one has never.

Also, do I need to still cut plant back to half when planting in a pot to allow for good root strength? May be in new place within months…and would like to plant in ground then but don’t know how! Do I need another plant to pollinate this one or are bees and insects enough?

The pot needs to be at least 2 inches larger than the rootball. Yes, pruning will help the plant recover easier from the stress of replanting, but if you’re planning on moving the tree again, you can simply hold off on cutting it back until you transplant to the ground in its permanent location. That said, as small as it is, you may not need to prune at all – may still be too young.
