Transplanting Barberry

We have a huge amount of bearberry growing all over our back yard and I’d like to add it to the side of our house as well where I’ve dug up all of the old grass/moss etc.

My questions are:
1) Should I put down new soil, or just leave what is there, minus the top growth? (I see that bearberry likes sand and poor soil so perhaps I shouldn’t buy new rich soil)

2) If I dig down deep enough around a 1-2 foot section of the currently growing bearberry, do you think I could simply transplant plots of it into the new area?

A soil test will help you determine if you need to amend the existing soil.
Your County Extension Office can help with a soil test for just a few dollars.
