Q.Transplanting A Plumeria

Zone Anaheim California 92805 | Anonymous added on July 30, 2026 | Unanswered Add Answer

I have a plumeria that is about 20 years old and has been growing in a pot outside. I want to take the plumeria out of the pot and place it in the ground. I have a problem…..the plumeria will not come out of the pot. The roots have grown around the bottom portion of the pot and then down thru the bottom hole. I have cut off the bottom of the pot and still cannot get the plant out. The plant stands about 6 feet tall. I’m wondering if I can plant the plumeria in a hole deep enough to bury the plant in the pot or should I cut the plumeria off at the trunk. I have started many new plants from just cutting off branches from my other plumerias but I’ve never cut one off at the trunk bottom. I cannot get the roots out unless I cut thru the side of the pot. There are so many roots growing round and round this pot, I don’t know what would happen if I planted this big wad of roots. Can you help ??
