Q.Transplanting a Kentia Palm

Anonymous added on April 15, 2014 | Answered

Local nurseries didn’t help. How do I transplant a Kentia (with 3 trunks) to a larger container? It is an outside plant and is about 6 ft tall above the pot. Roots appear to be pushed above the soil. Are they supposed to be below soil level? Any help would be appreciated. The palm is about 30 years old and was given to me by my mother 20 years ago. Thank you for your help.

If the roots are showing above the soil, it does sound like it may be time for a new pot. I would make the new pot only about 2 inches larger than the current one as Kentia palms grow best when slightly rootbound.
