transplanted Gardenia bush

Old established gardenia bush transplanted because of moving to another location. It was big so the roots were split. Was seemingly doing well the 1st month. Now the leaves are drying out on both bushes. Live in zone 9 in TX. and was watering every day. What can I add to clay soil to help it? Or what do I do?

Newly planted shrubs need lots of water, and gardenias are already finicky when it comes to transplanting. Sounds like it may have dried out some and suffering from shock as well. Amend the soil around the shrubs, water them well and tamp down the soil to collapse any air pockets that may be present as these can restrict the water from reaching the roots.
