Q.Transplant Lily’s

Zone 26610 | Anonymous added on September 4, 2025 | Answered

I got an asiatic lily plant yesterday and want to know when to winterize the plant. It is in full bloom and our temperatures at night are getting cooler, chances of frost. Is it ok to put into a bigger pot?

Typically they bloom in summer and the foliage would be dying back right now. You can plant it in the ground now, they are hardy to zone 4. If you are going to keep it in a container, let the foliage die back as long as possible before repotting so the bulb can regenerate. If it gets close to freezing weather, move the stalks and all into a larger container if you are overwintering it in a garage or basement. Let the stems continue to die back on their own.
