Q.Transplant Artichoke Plants In Zone 6b
I have two artichoke plants in pots that I would like to plant in my garden. I am zone 6b, in a valley and we get a lot of dew every night. I am going to purchase Vevega raised beds (metal 8 ft L x 27 inches H x 2 ft W). Garden gets plenty of sun. Length runs north to south. Width east to west. Can I transplant this fall? Will they survive the winter with heavy mulch?

You can transplant your artichoke plants this fall, but since you're in zone 6b, you'll need to take extra precautions for them to survive the winter. Artichokes can handle mild winters, but in your zone, it’s essential to provide heavy mulch, like straw or leaves, around the base to insulate the roots. Raised beds can drain well, which helps avoid root rot in your valley’s dewy conditions, but they also expose the roots to colder temperatures, so consider adding extra insulation. Since your garden gets plenty of sun and runs north to south, this layout will provide optimal sunlight for growth next spring. Just make sure the beds are well-mulched to protect the plants through the cold months.
